AQUARIAN
SPOTLIGHT, And Ring Tones For All
By Chris Castro

Have you ever been stuck sitting in the mall
food court with nothing but Panic! At The
Disco and My Chemical Romance ring tones
emanating every two seconds from the 13-
year-olds sitting at the table across from you
and wondered how great it would be if you
could just throw your favorite Gothenburg
style death metal band at them, but can’t
because they aren’t signed to a major label,
and, hence do not have ring tones? Thanks
to myxer.com, independent artists now have
their own method for creating and selling ring
tones in a free, easy to use manner.
The Myxer website essentially works with
two subsets: Myxer Tags and Myxer Codes.
Myxer Tags allows bands to sell or share their
songs as ring tones straight from their
MySpace or band website. Myxer Codes
allows bands to send text message shout
outs and sells ring tones during a live
performance.
For the past several years, mobile companies
lacked both the time and will to create
ring tones for anyone but platinum-selling
major label artists, but now Myxer has thrown
in an option for independent artists to help
level the playing field. Several artists have
already begun using Myxer, especially Skid
Row, to distribute their ring tones without the
involvement of major mobile or record
companies.
Bands benefit from Myxer by showing selfsufficient
marketing skills to promoters,
managers and labels, or, in the the opposite
manner, it can be used as a tool to stay
independent of major labels while still enjoying
access to one of the benefits. For more
information on buying ring tones or selling
your band’s, visit myxertones.com.
